Held Wed. June 14, at John Harvard's, Shopper's World, Framingham, Massachusetts

Our monthly meet-up was the usual good time, with about a dozen podcasters in attendance. When you consider that the meeting location was in flux until just before the event, that's not a bad turnout.

The meet-up began at 7pm. We talked about everything from recording equipment and the upcoming Podcast Expo to World Cup Soccer.

There was also a discussion of the 4th of July "event" the Boston Media Makers are attempting to plan. The general consensus was that it sounded like a great idea, but that not many people would be going into Boston on the 4th. Some felt that it might be a good idea to expand the idea into a concept that had everyone recording some audio about where they were and what they were doing on the 4th, similar to the photo projects that capture a 24 hour period around the world.

Perhaps most important of all, we settled on locations for the July and August meet-ups. More information on those plans will be posted shortly.

The last few podcasters departed John Harvard's Brew House at close to 10pm.

This is my first blog post concerning a meeting, so I'm just covering some basic info. Other 'casters who were at the meet-up are welcome to add their own comments.

Since we’re all independent media, why not call the 4th of July event “24 hours of independence” and make it a theme of declaring independence from mainstream media, covering things that the MSM just wouldn’t, either because of lack of saleable value, or too controversial to their political masters?

Chris, this is a good idea. Ironically, I’ll probably be in Canada on July 4, but I can still document my “independence” up there.

What will the Technorati tag be?

3. Eric Skiff - June 19, 2006

I love the idea! I’ve started to spread the word, and you can bet your butt that I’ll be participating in “independence from mainstream media” day
